The Kids’ Corral at the Warren County Farmers’ Fair…
Chock Full of Fun for Your Little Ones

Warren County, NJ: All ages find delight in something at the Warren County Farmer’s Fair, but every year the Fair proves to be a special wonder to children. Be sure to visit The Kids’ Corral children activity area with your children for some hands-on fun, clowning around and educational demonstrations. The tent is open from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm and all activities are free of charge for children.

Daily contests include: a Pie Eating Contest at 2:00 pm, Stick Pony Races at 2:40 pm,
Mini Hay Bale Rolling Contest at 3:00 pm, Bubble Gum Blowing Contest at 3:30 pm, and Fear Factor Veggie Style at 4:00 pm.

Download the schedule at www.warrencountyfarmersfair.org/kids_corral.html, or pick one up during your visit to the Fair. The weeks events include Art Fun With Melanie.
Melanie is majoring in Illustration at Marywood University and in her junior year! Your kids can come express themselves with Melanie! From mosaic bean pictures to molding expressive model magic faces, there is always something to enjoy or to create. One can paint in the likeness of Seurat through divisionism with Q-tip paintings you can design your own stamp.

We welcome back Debbie Koch “In the Kitchen” at the Kids Corral. Some highlights will include Food Safety… and “Fight Bac”, A Bit “Corny” Popcorn Day, “Even Nuttier Peanut Butter Tasting”, featuring the all natural, homemade, and the tofu versions. Of course various Jersey Fresh Vegetables, homemade Gazpacho, salsa, and their fruity companions made with watermelon. Bet there will be some surprises in store and lots of fun when Debbie’s In the Kitchen.

Make sure your child makes a quilt square for the Big Quilt Picture Project during his visit to the Kids’ Corral. Nine quilts were produced from the quilt squares from 2008 and be on display at the Kids’ Corral. You can enter your name in a drawing we will draw at the end of the week. A special thanks to Rosa Iannitelli of Belvidere for assembling the quilts for us each year. To view the quilts you could win check out our Kids’ Corral Facebook Page (search for Kids Corral).

This year we welcome Lina Crowell, Children’s Librarian from Warren County Library with “Stories from the Farmyard”. Junior Girl Scout Troop 94838 of Harmony Township, will be hosting a Free Book Exchange on Friday and cooking up some “Stone Soup” using NJ Fresh Home Grown ingredients. Stone Soup, the beloved story of what can happen when everyone shares in a task, is a favorite among parents and kids alike.

A favorite contest at the Kids’ Corral is “Fear Factor Veggie Style.” Do you have difficulty getting your children to eat vegetables? Maybe they will be up for this challenge. We wouldn’t say we “make” your children eat vegetables, rather we describe it as “introducing” them to a multitude of flavors such as spinach, lima beans and raw zucchini. Special thanks to ShopRite of Greenwich and Wegman’s of Nazareth, who supply us with a gift card that we use to purchase items like canned beets, pickled artichoke heart, spinach and other items we think your children should try.

Another favorite includes craft workshops presented by Environmental Educator, Diana Dove. Each craft is carefully selected with hands-on, interactive activities that kids love with a message for children that they can choose to help the environment.

Be sure to stop by the Kids’ Corral while visiting the Fair July 26 throught August 1 at the Fairgrounds in Harmony Township.

Warren County Farmers’ Fair & Balloon Festival
“Above All” Community Oriented

WARREN COUNTY, NJ – The 72nd Annual Warren County Farmers’ Fair kicks off Sunday, July 26 and runs through Saturday, August 1 on County Route 519 in Harmony Township, three miles north of Phillipsburg. Year after year, the Fair attracts youth of all ages to its 4-H and FFA exhibits and competitions, demolition derbies, craft and handwork displays, mud bogs, animal competitions, live entertainment, horse shows and more. Fair highlights also include tractor displays and pulls, the Kid's Corral, the popular Hot Air Balloon Festival and the Traditional Arts Expo. Opening Day starts with an Open Horse Show, Lawn Mower racing in the main arena that are free of charge to fairgoers, and mass hot air balloon launches each evening.

Keeping with its 72-year-long tradition of offering affordable family fun, the Fair won't leave a hole in your wallet: admission is just $5 for adults and $3 for ages 5-12. Children 4 and under are admitted free. Parking is free as well. Monday through Friday admission special allows children 12 years and under in free of charge until 4:00 pm. Adults pay $5 but can reenter the fairgrounds free of charge the same day with proof of purchase. A season pass to the Fair is $25.

For families with small children the fair can keep them entertained for hours for free. Drop by the animal barns to see cows, pigs, horses, rabbits and more. Catch a clown show at the Kids’ Corral, where everything is free of charge for fairgoers and their children. While at the Kids’ Corral participate in one of the contest from the Stick Pony races for little ones to Fear Factor Veggie Style for the more brave. Or participate in the Pie Eating, Bubble Gum Blowing or Hay Bale Rolling contest. Make some crafts, healthy snacks, make a quilt square for the Big Quilt Picture Project or do some coloring. There are plenty of activities from which to choose.

Be sure to visit the 4-H and FFA buildings where students have projects on display. 4-H and FFA exhibits and competitions include the Small Animal Show, Seeing Eye Dog Show, Games on Horseback, Dairy Show, Horse Drill Team, Sheep Show and Public Presentations, where members practice their oratory skills. Both excellent examples of youth organizations, 4-H and the FFA have inspired hundreds of young, local people to become active members of the community.

The Fair is an event that affords local community service groups an opportunity to raise funds for their year-long programs. Food stands are run by local Lions clubs, granges (agricultural-rooted organizations) and the Warren Hills Wrestling Club. The Stewartsville Grange will be holding a blood drive in conjunction with Miller Memorial Blood Center on August 1 at the Fair. Eligible donors will receive a $5 food voucher good for the Stewartsville Grange food stand. The wrestling club runs a tournament on Saturday of the fair and a $500 scholarship is awarded. Let’s not forget the popular Dunking Booth run by the Belvidere HS field hockey team.

Included in the admission price to the Fair is the Hot Air Balloon Festival. This year the 9th Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival will feature mass hot air balloon launches every evening at 6:30 pm. The Balloon Festival runs in conjunction with the Fair and admission into the Fair allows spectators to view the balloons up close from the balloon port on Strykers Road. This year we will be featuring a competition – “Megaphone Monday and Tuesday” – that will involve the children. Children will cheer on pilots in a race to inflate their balloon the fastest. The winning team wins prize money donated to the charity of their choice. Wednesday night, July 29, will be the 3rd annual Bicycle Balloon Race, with a rain date of Thursday, July 30. Bikers and Balloonists pair up for an exciting race where the biker rides in the balloon and the bike is strapped onto the basket. Proceeds from the race all go to local charity, the ADM Foundation.

Windham Mountain Ranch returns to the Fair with their “Great American Frontier” show and display. See live demonstrations, experience pioneer life hand-on, see authentic early American Artifacts, animals that built America and enjoy one of 4 thrilling and interactive free shows each day.

Ryan Pelton, Elvis Impersonator is back by popular demand. Grandstand seating is available for $10 per person – the most affordable tickets around for one of the BEST Elvis impersonators performing today.

The Warren County Farmers’ Fair would not be possible without the year-long commitment of the Board of Directors, which consists of twelve volunteers and three secretaries. The board takes pride in bringing to you one of the few remaining agricultural Fairs in New Jersey. The Fair offers a lot of variety for different age groups and interests. We encourage you to plan your visit accordingly. Many new visitors flock to the fair to see the balloons launch, but please note that balloon activity begins around 6:30 when the winds are more conducive. We hope that if your main interest is the balloon launches that you do take some time to come down a few hours prior to launch. Experience some of the exhibits and learn about the farming life and what it takes to get produce, dairy and meats to the table!

Some other highlights of the Fair include car shows, horse shows and Traditional Arts Expo. The Warren Hills FFA Alumni Association is again organizing their annual car show with corvettes, street rods, customs, diesels and more on display. Dirt Track Heroes is organized and presented by the Harmony Speedway Historical Society. Those who remember attending dirt track races in Harmony, Flemington and Nazareth, will delight in meeting stock car drivers from the 60's, who will be displaying their rebuilt winning cars, trophies and memorabilia. Current day drivers will be in attendance as well. Equestrian events include the Open Horse Show on opening day, 4-H Horse Drill Team, a Dressage Demonstration and Nine Pines Open Western and English Pleasure Show. The 10th Annual Traditional Arts Expo invites guests to explore the talents of the area's artisans. The time-honored talents of the Evening Star Quilt Guild, the Hunterdon County Quilt Guild, the Warren County Needle Arts Guild, and the Lost Art Lacers of North Jersey will be showcased during daily exhibits and demonstrations. Be sure to vote for your favorite in the "Viewer's Choice" quilt contest at the Traditional Arts Building.

Fair attendees should expect plenty of delicious Fair food, carnival rides and live entertainment including popular local DJ, Doc South.

The directors at the Warren County Farmers’ Fair would like to thank our Gold Sponsors, RE/MAX® of New Jersey, AmeriGas, Brown-Daub and the New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism.
